Boot Scootin' Good Time

My students are amazing. I tell them that often. It's nights like tonight that make me even more proud. A few hours ago we wrapped up our 14th annual 2nd Grade Barn Dance which is the culminating event for our dance unit. Over the last 2 weeks they have been practicing their elbow swing, refining the promenade, and working on keeping a steady beat. They've mastered circling left and right, moving into the center, and performing a do-si-do. But more importantly, they learned how to work as team....how to self-correct...how to actively listen. They have gained self-confidence and learned about self-control.

My students performed several square dances tonight in a gym full of proud parents, grandparents, and siblings. Then, they used their leadership skills and successfully taught their loved ones the dance steps. It is always such a beautiful sight to see students and parents, hand-in-hand. Our students were using complimentary words and positive language to do their part so they could be a positive contributor to their "set". Teamwork, collaboration, communication, and contribution were all evident.

My students are amazing.....and I am truly blessed to have the opportunity to see them flourish and grow each and every day.
